We can also use a combination of processes to foster open dialogue, distill the issues behind the dispute and create channels from which disputants can arrive at a mutually agreed settlement.
The context of the conflict will help determine the best strategy and mediation style. Within ADR, Probity International focuses on Facilitative and Transformative mediation. Facilitative mediation is a more traditional mediation process where the mediator will control the procedure of the mediation, but the parties will control the outcome. Transformative mediation seeks to transform the relationship between the parties past the conflict and seeks to empower them to focus on a collaborative relationship. This allows participants to independently identify their problems and seek solutions.
